Reading: Multiple choice & List selection

1. Mục tiêu buổi học

• Phân biệt được dạng multiple choice (chọn 1 đáp án) và list selection (chọn 2–3 đáp án).
• Gạch được ý chính trong câu hỏi trước khi tìm thông tin.
• Tìm được đoạn văn liên quan trong passage trước khi đọc các phương án A, B, C.
• Loại được phương án sai ý, không có trong bài, hoặc đúng nhưng không trả lời câu hỏi.

2. Multiple choice & List selection là gì?

Multiple choice (MCQ) là dạng cho một câu hỏi, bạn chọn MỘT đáp án đúng từ A, B, C, D. List selection giống hệt, nhưng đề yêu cầu chọn HAI hoặc BA đáp án đúng từ danh sách 5–7 phương án. Cả hai dạng đều có thể hỏi về chi tiết, hỏi ý chính đoạn văn, hoặc hỏi ý chính cả bài.

Passage trong bài này xoay quanh chủ đề từ điển. Đọc passage rồi làm các câu hỏi bên dưới.

Passage:

A good dictionary is more than just a list of words and their meanings. Modern dictionaries provide a wealth of information in each entry, including pronunciation symbols, word stress, usage examples, and grammatical details such as whether a verb is transitive or intransitive, and whether a noun is countable or uncountable. Some dictionaries also include a thesaurus section, which lists synonyms and antonyms for each word, helping users expand their vocabulary and find the exact word they need.

For language learners, paying attention to word families can be particularly productive. A word family consists of the base word and its related forms — for example, produce (verb), productive (adjective), production (noun). Understanding these connections helps learners recognise patterns and use words correctly in different contexts. Many modern dictionaries now organise entries by word family, making it easier to see how a word changes across different word classes.

Trước khi nhảy vào đọc passage, gạch phần chính của câu hỏi. Câu hỏi What does the passage say about modern dictionaries? thì phần chính là modern dictionaries. Câu hỏi According to the passage, understanding word families helps learners… thì phần chính là word families helps learners. Gạch xong, bạn biết mình cần tìm thông tin gì trong passage.

2. Tìm đoạn trước, đọc phương án sau

Đừng đọc hết A, B, C, D rồi mới quay lại passage. Làm vậy dễ nhớ lẫn. Thứ tự đúng: gạch keyword trong câu hỏi → tìm keyword hoặc paraphrase của nó trong passage → đọc cả câu xung quanh để hiểu ý → RỒI MỚI đọc các phương án và chọn phương án khớp nhất.

Ví dụ câu hỏi 1: bạn tìm thấy modern dictionaries ở đầu passage. Câu đó nói: Modern dictionaries provide a wealth of information in each entry, including pronunciation symbols, word stress, usage examples, and grammatical details… Giờ mới đọc các phương án. Phương án B They include grammatical information khớp với grammatical details trong passage.

3. Loại phương án sai

Ba kiểu phương án sai hay gặp:

Loại sai thứ ba là bẫy nguy hiểm nhất. Bạn thấy phương án có trong passage thì nghĩ nó đúng ngay, nhưng quên mất nó không trả lời đúng câu hỏi đang hỏi.

4. Cách làm 5 bước

1. Đọc câu hỏiGạch ý chính (keyword) trong câu hỏi. Đếm xem đề yêu cầu chọn mấy đáp án.
2. Tìm đoạn liên quanScan passage tìm keyword hoặc paraphrase. Đọc cả câu xung quanh để hiểu ý.
3. Đọc các phương ánGiờ mới đọc A, B, C, D (hoặc nhiều hơn nếu là list selection).
4. Loại phương án saiLoại phương án sai ý, không có trong bài, hoặc đúng nhưng không trả lời câu hỏi.
5. Chọn đáp ánChọn phương án khớp nhất với ý trong passage. Nếu list selection, đếm lại xem đã chọn đủ số đáp án chưa.
