IELTS Part 2 cue cards cluster into 6 types:

  1. Person — "Describe a person who inspired you"
  2. Place — "Describe a place you'd like to visit"
  3. Event — "Describe a memorable celebration"
  4. Object — "Describe a useful piece of technology"
  5. Experience — "Describe a time you helped someone"
  6. Abstract — "Describe a skill you'd like to learn"

Each type benefits from a slightly different framework.

Type 1: Person

Framework

  • Opening: relationship + brief description
  • Bullet 1 (who): physical/personality
  • Bullet 2 (how met/known): context
  • Bullet 3 (what makes special): specific traits/actions
  • Reflection: impact on you

Useful vocabulary

  • a role model / a mentor / a source of inspiration

Type 2: Place

Framework

  • Opening: location + general appeal
  • Bullet 1 (where): geographic + context
  • Bullet 2 (description): sensory details (sight, sound, atmosphere)
  • Bullet 3 (why visit/like): specific features
  • Reflection: significance to you

Useful vocabulary

  • bustling / tranquil / vibrant / serene

Type 3: Event

Framework

  • Opening: type of event + when/where
  • Bullet 1 (when): timing + context
  • Bullet 2 (what happened): narrative sequence
  • Bullet 3 (who attended): people involved
  • Reflection: why memorable

Type 4: Object
