Universities are very important for young people. Some people think they should only teach academic things, but others think they should also help students get jobs. Both ideas have good points.
On one hand, universities are places for academic study. Subjects like history, philosophy, and pure mathematics are not directly useful in jobs, but they teach students how to think and analyse. Without universities, these subjects might disappear. Also, deep academic knowledge is the basis for new discoveries.
On the other hand, students pay a lot of money for university, and they want jobs after they graduate. Many students study things like business or computer science because they want a good career. Universities should help these students by teaching practical skills, like programming or interview skills. They can also give internships and connect students with companies.
In my opinion, universities should do both things. Pure academic knowledge is important, but in today's world students also need career skills. For example, a student studying English literature can also learn how to write a CV. A computer science student can learn theory and also do internships. This combination gives the student a strong base and also a good chance to find a job.
In conclusion, both academic skills and career skills are important. Universities should not choose one. They should teach both, so students get a complete education and are also ready for the future.

Phân tích từng đoạn
Mở bàiGiới thiệu hai quan điểm.
Universities are very important for young people. Some people think they should only teach academic things, but others think they should also help students get jobs.
Bỏ câu mở kiểu "X are very important".
Subjects like history, philosophy, and pure mathematics are not directly useful in jobs, but they teach students how to think and analyse.
Ví dụ môn học cụ thể là điểm tốt. Nhưng các câu sau chỉ nêu ý rồi dừng: "Without universities, these subjects might disappear." không nói vì sao, "deep academic knowledge is the basis for new discoveries" thiếu ví dụ.
On the other hand, students pay a lot of money for university, and they want jobs after they graduate.
Lý do thực tế, dễ hiểu, nhưng cách nói còn đơn giản: "pay a lot of money", "want jobs", "a good career". Hai câu cuối liệt kê việc trường có thể làm mà chưa nói vì sao điều đó giúp sinh viên.
Mẹo viết
Nâng cách nói: "invest heavily in their education", "secure employment", "build a successful career".
Ý kiếnNêu quan điểm riêng.
For example, a student studying English literature can also learn how to write a CV.
Hai ví dụ đối nhau (văn học Anh và khoa học máy tính) làm đoạn này thuyết phục hơn hẳn thân bài. Câu mở đoạn "universities should do both things" vẫn dùng từ "things" chung chung.
Mẹo viết
Mở đoạn ý kiến bằng một câu nêu thẳng lập luận, ví dụ "I believe the two aims complement each other".
Universities should not choose one. They should teach both, so students get a complete education and are also ready for the future.
Kết bài nhắc lại ý kiến rõ ràng nhưng là chuỗi câu ngắn, lặp lại "both".
Mẹo viết
Gộp thành một câu có cấu trúc "while…" để tóm cả hai vế trong một lần.

Whether universities should concentrate purely on academic learning or also focus on preparing students for the workplace is a long-running debate. In my view, both functions matter, and a successful university must do both reasonably well.
Those who argue for a purely academic focus emphasise that university is a unique environment for deep, sustained study. Subjects like philosophy, pure mathematics, or literature are unlikely to be taught anywhere else, and yet they shape critical thinking and contribute to the long-term knowledge base of society. If universities abandoned them in favour of vocational training, society would lose something important. Furthermore, narrowly job-focused programmes may date quickly, since the labour market changes faster than curricula.
On the other hand, the case for career preparation is also compelling. Most students attend university at significant personal and family cost, and a clear majority do so partly with their future employment in mind. Universities that ignore this reality risk producing graduates who are intellectually competent but unemployable. Practical components — internships, industry projects, communication training, and CV workshops — bridge that gap. Many of the world's best universities now embed such elements without lowering academic standards.
In my opinion, the choice is a false one. A university degree should produce a graduate who can think rigorously and can also navigate a professional environment. A history student, for example, benefits from learning to write clear reports and present to non-specialists; a computer science student gains from studying algorithms and from doing real-world internships. The two strands reinforce rather than compete with each other.
In conclusion, while academic depth must remain the heart of higher education, universities should also actively prepare students for working life — because today's students rightly expect both.

Phân tích từng đoạn
Mở bàiViết lại đề và nêu quan điểm rõ.
Whether universities should concentrate purely on academic learning or also focus on preparing students for the workplace is a long-running debate.
Mở bài bằng mệnh đề "Whether…" làm chủ ngữ, một cấu trúc nâng cao. "long-running debate" thay cho "people argue".
Subjects like philosophy, pure mathematics, or literature are unlikely to be taught anywhere else, and yet they shape critical thinking and contribute to the long-term knowledge base of society.
Câu chủ đề "Those who argue for…" báo trước quan điểm của đoạn. Có ví dụ môn học cụ thể. "Furthermore" dẫn lý do thứ hai.
Mẹo viết
Mỗi đoạn thân bài cần ít nhất hai lý do kèm ví dụ. "Those who argue that…" tách quan điểm của người khác khỏi ý của bạn.
Thân bài 2Quan điểm đối lập kèm lý do.
Most students attend university at significant personal and family cost, and a clear majority do so partly with their future employment in mind.
"On the other hand" chuyển ý mượt. Lý do thực tế: chi phí học và việc làm. Liệt kê cụ thể các phần thực hành: internships, industry projects, communication training, CV workshops.
Mẹo viết
Ví dụ thực tế thay cho nói chung chung. Câu "Many of the world's best universities now embed such elements" dẫn chứng từ trường uy tín.
Ý kiếnQuan điểm riêng, minh hoạ bằng hai ngành.
A history student, for example, benefits from learning to write clear reports and present to non-specialists; a computer science student gains from studying algorithms and from doing real-world internships.
"the choice is a false one" là câu có chính kiến mạnh.
In conclusion, while academic depth must remain the heart of higher education, universities should also actively prepare students for working life — because today's students rightly expect both.
Cấu trúc "while X, Y" cân bằng hai vế. Dấu gạch dài dẫn tới lý do cuối.

The proper purpose of a university — whether to pursue knowledge for its own sake or to equip students for the labour market — has been debated for centuries. While the two aims are sometimes presented as opposed, I would argue that any modern university worth attending must combine them.
The traditional, knowledge-centred view holds that universities exist to safeguard and extend humanity's intellectual heritage. Without institutions devoted to philosophy, theoretical physics, or classical literature, such fields would atrophy, and with them the long-term innovation that often springs from apparently impractical thought. There is also a developmental case: wrestling with difficult ideas, regardless of immediate application, cultivates the analytical depth that no short vocational course can replicate. From this perspective, narrow employability training represents a betrayal of what makes universities distinctive.
The opposing view, however, draws strength from the contemporary economics of higher education. Tuition fees in most countries have risen sharply, and graduates increasingly enter a labour market that rewards demonstrable skills as much as credentials. Universities that ignore this reality risk producing graduates who are admirably read but professionally adrift. Embedded internships, industry-mentored projects, and structured coaching in writing, presentation, and digital tools can ease the transition into work without diluting intellectual standards. Many of the world's leading universities have already moved in this direction.
My own conviction is that the dichotomy is largely false. A literature student gains, not loses, by learning to analyse texts and to write a coherent professional report; a computer scientist benefits from studying both abstract algorithms and real engineering practice. The deepest forms of academic training, properly delivered, equip the mind for any task — but only if students are also given the explicit bridges into professional life that earlier generations were able to take for granted.
In conclusion, while academic rigour should remain the core mission of universities, integrating thoughtful career preparation strengthens rather than diminishes that mission. The choice between the two is, in the end, a choice the most thoughtful institutions have already declined to make.

Phân tích từng đoạn
Mở bàiViết lại đề và nêu lập trường.
The proper purpose of a university — whether to pursue knowledge for its own sake or to equip students for the labour market — has been debated for centuries.
Viết lại đề bằng cụm danh từ "the proper purpose of a university" và chèn hai vế của đề vào giữa hai dấu gạch dài. Câu thứ hai nêu quan điểm ngay: "any modern university worth attending must combine them".
Mẹo viết
Mở bài Band 8 nêu được cả vấn đề lẫn lập trường chỉ trong hai câu.
Thân bài 1Quan điểm học thuật, đẩy tới hệ quả.
Without institutions devoted to philosophy, theoretical physics, or classical literature, such fields would atrophy, and with them the long-term innovation that often springs from apparently impractical thought.
Lý do đi tới hệ quả xa (mất đi sự đổi mới lâu dài), không dừng ở "môn này quan trọng". "atrophy", "springs from" là từ ít gặp dùng đúng nghĩa. Câu "There is also a developmental case" mở thêm tầng lý do thứ hai.
Mẹo viết
Đẩy mỗi lý do tới hệ quả của nó: nếu không có X thì điều gì mất đi.
Thân bài 2Quan điểm nghề nghiệp kèm giải pháp.
Universities that ignore this reality risk producing graduates who are admirably read but professionally adrift.
"this reality" nối về câu trước (học phí, thị trường lao động).
My own conviction is that the dichotomy is largely false.
Câu cuối thêm điều kiện "but only if…" làm lập luận chặt hơn.
Mẹo viết
Đoạn ý kiến Band 8 thường đi xa hơn hai quan điểm của đề, kèm điều kiện để lập luận đứng vững.
Kết bàiTóm lập trường và câu chốt.
In conclusion, while academic rigour should remain the core mission of universities, integrating thoughtful career preparation strengthens rather than diminishes that mission.
Tóm lại lập trường bằng "while…" và phép đối "strengthens rather than diminishes".
